The Woman Who Chose Purpose Over Applause

Women entrepreneurs today are successfully making names for themselves, significantly reshaping the landscape of modern business. But every now and then, a story emerges that doesn’t just inspire — it redefines what building an empire can actually look like. Dr. Zarine Manchanda is one such story.

As CEO of Zarine Manchanda Enterprises, she oversees five distinct businesses — the Zarine Manchanda Café, Heavenly Flavors Cloud Kitchen, a restaurant celebrating the authentic flavors of Himachal Pradesh, Zarine Manchanda Security Agency, and Zarine Manchanda Productions. Each venture is different. Each carries the same unmistakable signature.

A Crucial Turning Point

Zarine’s journey took a pivotal turn when she learned the importance of having a backup plan — a lesson quietly passed down by her mother.

Her first dream was to act. The stage, the craft, the camera — that was the plan. But circumstances led her elsewhere. Inspired by her father’s legacy as a respected politician and minister, she turned toward a different kind of purpose. In 2019, she launched the Zarine Manchanda Foundation — not after the money came in, not after the businesses were built. First. Before any of it.

The Foundation began in Aarey Colony and later expanded into Andheri. Over four years, more than 500 charitable initiatives for Mumbai’s most invisible residents. She describes the work as her life’s mission. Says it fills her with empathy and energy in a way the boardroom doesn’t quite replicate.

It doesn’t sound like a PR line. It sounds like someone telling the truth.

From Boardroom to Beyond

Dr. Manchanda’s journey resists easy categorization.

As CEO, she is accountable for the daily operations of five enterprises — each growing, each reflecting a larger philosophy about what a business should feel like. But the boardroom is only one room in her world. She is also the Regional Director for Mumbai under the BRICS trade alliance, a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment, and a philanthropist who has spent years quietly showing up in places most people drive past.

In her businesses, she blends two things that don’t obviously belong together: luxury and spiritual allure. Raised in an environment of refinement, she made a deliberate choice to carry that quality into everything she built. The standard of hospitality. The feel of the experience. Alongside it runs a spiritual conviction that she doesn’t keep private. It’s her compass, she says. The thing that gives the rest of it direction.

She calls this her unique selling proposition. And unlike trend-dependent models, both luxury and the spiritual carry something timeless. That’s the logic behind her expansion — franchising, multiple Indian cities, eventually international markets. Not chasing what’s popular. Building on what doesn’t expire.

Women in Leadership

Ask her about gender in business and she doesn’t reach for the usual speech.

For Zarine, femininity in leadership isn’t a soft quality tucked politely into the background — it is the strategy. The ability to inspire genuinely, listen deeply, and lead with equal parts confidence and empathy is, in her view, not a personality trait. It is a competitive advantage. Her own leadership style is built on exactly that, and the results across five businesses and a foundation make the argument for her.

She’s not asking for a seat at the table. She already built her own.

Prestigious Roles and Enduring Impact

Zarine’s journey includes appointments that speak to an influence running well beyond Mumbai’s business circles.

As Regional Director of BRICS, she plays a central role in shaping India’s international trade relationships — a position that demands diplomatic precision and long-term strategic thinking. Her role as Chairperson and Editor-in-Chief for Maharashtra, Goa, and Himachal Pradesh at the National Council of News and Broadcasting reflects her commitment to media reform, press freedom, and human rights. These are not honorary titles worn lightly. They are active responsibilities. She shows up for them.

Zarine Manchanda’s story is ultimately one of empowerment, resilience, and a spirit that quietly refuses to be ordinary. As she continues to expand her reach and redefine what leadership can look like, her legacy grows into something larger than any single title — a reminder that with determination, self-belief, and the courage to pivot when life demands it, the dreams worth having are rarely the ones you started with.

The spotlight she once stepped away from found her anyway. Only now, she controls it.
